Testing* Red Painted Surfaces
click here for a printable version

Background:

LeadCheck® Swabs turn pink to red when lead is detected. It is important, when testing surfaces painted with red paint, to make sure that red pigment will not bleed from the paint surface onto the Swab tip.

Method:

Using a white cloth, clean red surfaces with a few drops of distilled white vinegar. If the cloth turns pink or red use Sodium Sulfide (Catalog #: Pb-1 Sulfide) to test the surface for the presence of lead.

*LeadCheck® Swabs are a versatile and sensitive screening tool for the detection of lead on any surface. This applications note provides a suggested method to allow testing for a specific application. Additional information and help are available by calling 800-262-5323 or 508-651-7881.
